SavvyMom is a company run by moms, for moms. We understand what it’s like to start out small (read: two of us working in a home office) and grow to a team of 14 across the country. Yes, we’re proud, but it’s not all about us today.
It’s about all the other mom-run businesses that support us, and whom we support through programs like the SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award and our new Well on Their Way program. Because that’s what moms do. We support each other.
Let’s look at the winner of the 2010 Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award as an example of that kind of support. We’re pleased to announce that Laura Berg, owner and operator of My Smart Hands, is this year’s winner of the $22,000 prize designed to take her business to the next level. My Smart Hands aims to educate young minds by offering classes and products that teach parents to communicate with their babies through ASL sign language, eliminating much of the frustration babies and toddlers experience when not able to communicate.
Among a field of over 250 nominees this year, Laura tallied up the greatest number of votes through the support of her business contacts and social network. That includes all those families who benefited from her classes and products who were happy to support her in her efforts by casting a simple vote. That is the power of what we call ‘word of mom’.
