Deep blue sky, long shadows, piles of red and gold leaves and thick wool sweaters, turkey with stuffing, pumpkin pie and crunchy sidewalks underfoot—these are the sights and sounds of Thanksgiving.
We truly love Thanksgiving because simply put, we are thankful. We’re thankful for the opportunity to give thanks for our abundance without the structure and excess of the other seasonal winter holiday (that which shall not be named until at least after Halloween).
We also like how the city slows to a crawl this weekend (many kids’ activities are put on hold) to accommodate family time—making it a great weekend to get away. The Delta Lodge at Kananaskis is a local favourite on long weekends. This year the hotel is hosting the Kananaskis Thanksgiving Heritage Festival for guests. Free activities range from scavenger hunts and guided hikes to storytelling and old fashioned pumpkin carving. Rooms start at $189 and include a food and beverage credit.
