My 10 year old son was throwing a fit on the hockey rink.
The Mom in me was nauseous. This was, in my opinion, a major regression of behaviour I thought we had buried. He hadn’t acted this frustrated in months.
The other team scored again during his shift. His anger and outbursts were exponentially growing. I was ready to blow, I was ready to walk across that ice and drag him home.
It was an exchange from a relative stranger who totally diffused my anger. It was one sentence from a hockey coach that completely changed how I was dealing with the situation. One sentence that made me see the positive in what I thought was a negative.
