When I was young, somewhere around age three, maybe four, my mom decided our family was going to embrace vegetarianism. It was fairly forward thinking for the time, but also short-lived, because today both my parents are committed carnivores. One thing I also remember is these yummy Oatmeal Power Balls she came up with to ensure we had enough protein and fats.
These are perfect snacks to pop into your kids pre-activity and for snacks at home (or replace the peanut butter with a seed butter to make these school safe).

Makes approx. 2 dozen
Oatmeal Power Balls Recipe
You’ll Need
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup sunflower seed, peanut, or almond butter
- ½ cup liquid honey
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp flax seed
- 2 Tbsp chia seeds
- 2 Tbsp hemp hearts
- Large pinch kosher salt
Prep and Cook
- 1In a food processor fitted with a steel blade, combine all of the ingredients and pulse until they come together and are fully mixed.
Cover, transfer to the refrigerator, and chill for a minimum of 30 minutes. - 2Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and using a tablespoon measure, shape the oatmeal mixture into balls.
Place them on the prepared baking sheet and chill for 30 minutes before serving. - 3Store any uneaten power balls in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for 6 months.
