Sidney-by-the-Sea is more than a small town on the way to the BC Ferry Terminal. In fact, there is so much to do there that an afternoon or day is not enough time. It’s a place to keep in mind if you feel like going on a big adventure not so far away.
Discover
A little learning comes with a lot of entertainment at spots like the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, an aquarium and marine education centre which often has special activities for the kids. The Sidney Museum focuses on the history of the area’s first inhabitants and pioneers. Mineral World has incredible hands-on displays and interactive activities for kids on all things geological. For your budding pilots, the BC Aviation Museum features 20 vintage airplanes from the pioneer days, World War II, and the Wright Brothers.
Play
If you’re going to be ‘by the sea’, then a little outdoor adventure is a definite must. The Centennial Bandstand, at the end of Beacon Avenue, is the place to bring a picnic lunch and play on the grass overlooking the water. If you’ve got the bikes on hand, Tulista Park is the perfect place to watch the kids ride and play in a large playground against the backdrop of Mt. Baker and the water.
