So, you’re about halfway there. Is cabin fever creeping in yet?
We’re here to help you either make the most of this holiday break, or get through it in one piece—depending on your outlook.
Not up for braving the cold? There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the Great Indoors. Cozy up with a book (one for them, one for you, and one to read together), do some baking (here are four easy kid-friendly recipes), play a board game (our faves for kids both young and old), or a make a fun craft. Make the most of it by turning it into a friendly competition, and just enjoy the moment.
If the kids are going stir-crazy and you all need to get out of the house, go tubing or tobogganing at one of the best hills in town, go for a skate at Robson Square (it’s a classic for a reason) or take refuge at one of our favourite indoor playgrounds and let the kids blow off some steam.
Still looking for more? We rounded up our all-time favourite holiday events and festivals that are happening around town. Check them out—there’s still time!
And for some post-Christmas fun, check out these local happenings:
Coquitlam’s Lights at Lafarge Winter Lights Display, on until January 22.
Over 100,000 lights are illuminating Lafarge Lake this season. It’s the biggest and brightest light display in the Lower Mainland. (Bonus: it’s free!)
Winter Ice Palace, in Cloverdale, Surrey. Until January 2
The Cloverdale arena has been transformed into a winter wonderland. Come skate on their ‘old-fashioned pond’. Skate and helmet rentals are available, and admission is $4.50.
Marshmallow Olympics at the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Saturday, December 31 at 3 pm
The BC Sports Hall of Fame has your back this holiday break. A $12 youth ticket (kiddos under 5 are free) grants you access to the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the participation zone—which includes climbing wall, foosball, bubble hockey, and more—and a Marshmallow Olympian event, which involves constructing ‘Olympians’ out of marshmallows and pasta before putting them through a series of events and tests.
