Reality check: the holidays are almost here, and to ensure we actually enjoy the season, a few advance plans are necessary. A trip to the theatre is a great family tradition. So for a family-friendly experience that is high on the enjoyment factor for kids of all ages, and easy on the pocketbook, here are our top picks.
Go to the Goh
The 30-year old Goh Ballet Academy, under the new direction of savvy mom and National Ballet of Canada’s former Prima Ballerina, Chan Hon Goh (daughter of the founders), is presenting one of the most popular family ballets, The Nutcracker, for a second season. A fantastical journey through the Land of Snow, Sweets, and the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Nutcracker is a classic holiday themed event that is great for all ages.
Good to Know: For younger children, there are two weekend matinee performances.

Ride the Carousel
If your family likes musicals, Seussical the Musical, at the 36-year old Carousel Theatre, is sure to appeal. A condensed version of the Broadway show specifically tailored for young audiences, this musical interweaves time-honoured Dr. Seuss stories with songs, props, and storylines. Characters include Horton, Jo-Jo, Cat in the Hat, and even a cameo from the Grinch.
