Repeat after us: ’Less money on gifts, more time with your family.’

Here is a round up of some fun events around town that can help with this new resolve (and best of luck to you on that) and help others at the same time.

Vancouver Festival of Trees
Dates: November 19 through January 4, 2009
Location: Four Seasons Hotel lobby
Charity: BC Children’s Hospital
How to give: Sponsor a tree or make a donation (suggested minimum is $2).
Fun for the kids: Take your children to see the beautifully decorated Christmas trees, all with different themes, and have them vote for their favourite.

Christmas at Canada Place: On the Sails
Dates: December 4 – 31, 2008
Location: Canada Place
Charities: Strathcona Community Centre’s Food Security for Children’s Program, CKNW’s Orphan’s Fund, CTV Kids’ Care and the Vancouver Sun’s Raise-A-Reader
How to give: Make a donation on-line or in person.
Fun for the kids: Peruse all the wonderful decorations and trees, visit in the evening and take in the holiday light show (6 – 10 pm). If you have some time Saturday, December 20, take in the $5 showing of “Nutcracker 3D” at the IMAX Theatre at 10 am. All proceeds go to charity.
