Although we hate to admit it, we love shopping in the US—at least for stuff we can’t get here, of course. (That’s a big part of the allure.) But for Vancouverites, there is now one less reason to battle the Peace Arch border crossing. One of America’s most established clothiers, Brooks Brothers, has finally come to Canada, choosing Vancouver as its launching point.
Last month, Brooks Brothers opened its giant double doors here, adding significantly to the swank factor on Alberni Street. The 11,000-square-foot space is dedicated mostly to men but has a growing women’s section and a section for little boys, with little girls’ clothes coming soon. For those (few) not familiar with the line, Brooks Brothers has been around for almost 200 years, outfitting America’s biggest names, from JFK to Obama, and it is known for its classic look. Vancouver’s store carries Brooks’ tried and true items. But it’s the newer ProSport line of casual clothes and active wear that is getting a lot of attention. With a Nike-esque feeling to it, full of technical fabrics and with-it designs, ProSport was brought to Alberni Street to fit to our West Coast lifestyle and to suit our wet coast weather—just in time for the Olympics.
