We’ve discovered a great way to get geared up for bike season—testing our tires at the local BMX bike parks. Who knew these parks weren’t just for expert riders? They’re safe places for kids to have fun, too.
The parks are designed by local riders to accommodate all levels of ability and some even designate the routes like a ski run: black diamond, blue square or green circle. A few parks have pump tracks and agility courses for added fun.
Our fave is the one at Inter River Park in North Vancouver, with a challenging track that kids of all ages can enjoy. We even saw kids on run bikes here. There’s plenty of spectator seating, a BMX track and an agility course, too. If your little biker decides they’re interested in real BMX racing, check out North Shore BMX which offers races and training for bikers of all ages.
In Kitsilano, there is a smaller all-dirt bike park that’s a little harder to find—it’s in Vanier Park, near the Burrard Street Bridge (south of the boat launch area).
For those living south of the city, Steveston has a great bike park too—perfect for wannabe BMX’ers and mountain bikers alike.
So, no more spinning your wheels on where to go for your next family bike ride.
