It’s not just flowers that grow in May. There is a new bounty of beautiful local produce to find at farmers’ markets that will be opening this weekend. Support local farmers by treating your family to crunchy apples picked that morning, creamy cheeses, artisan bread still warm from the oven, exotic mushrooms, sweet honey and produce representing the colours of the rainbow. Make a weekly tradition of communing with your neighbours, having some lunch in the open air and filling your fridge with goodness.
Our favourite market opening this weekend is the Ambleside Farmers’ Market, located at 14th and Bellevue in West Vancouver. Here, like at other markets, one can gather the makings of a great Sunday dinner, complete with the freshest produce and a home-baked pie to finish.
We love the fact that the kids are entertained at the craft corner with face painting, crafts and storytelling, leaving parents free to shop and chat with the vendors and neighbours, while a magnificent cruise ship floats gently by. The Ambleside Farmers’ Market opens this Sunday from 10 am till 3 pm and runs till October 27.
