Anything worth having involves work, and Christmas trees are no exception. You’ll know what we mean after you cut your own then beam with pride while you’re gathered around it this season.

We know just where to go to get the deed done in the Lower Mainland, but note that opening times vary between the last week of November and the first week of December, and most tree farms close when the sun goes down (darkness and hacksaws make strange bedfellows) so plan accordingly.

H&M Christmas Tree Farm in Richmond has all the sleigh bells and whistles. Plan extra time for sipping hot cider and roasting a hot dog over their open fire, because proceeds go to the Richmond Food Bank.

In Langley, check out Frosty’s Family Christmas Tree Farm, it’s a festive family atmosphere, but leave Fido at home—there are no dogs allowed.

Whether you are after a Blue Spruce or a Fraser Fir, Oh Christmas Tree in Langley has a good variety of trees to choose from on their 17 acres.

If free is your price, then check out BC Forestry for a free permit and tips on cutting a tree on Crown land. In Whistler, trees underneath the power line can be cut for free, but again, check guidelines.

Good to Know: Shop early for the best selection and remember to deck your kids in their brightest toques and mittens for the best photo op ever.

It’ll be your best tree yet—and we’ve got the 4 best places to get it.
