Have Fun ‘Till the Cows Come Home at Abbotsford’s Bakerview EcoDairy

COWS

The cool kids might be asking ‘what does the fox say?’ these days, but we’re more interested in ‘moo’ and ‘oink’. That’s because kids love farm animals, so it’s no surprise that they love to visit them too.

For a day out to meet some oinkers, we suggest a trip to Abbotsford’s Bakerview EcoDairy. The first demonstration farm of its kind in Canada, it showcases sustainable dairy farm practices while engaging the public in hands-on learning.

Just how well does this EcoDairy treat its animals? It provides comfy mattresses for its milking cows to rest on—because they really believe happier cows provide tastier milk. Committed to the environment? You bet. They use manure to create electricity and to make cow bedding and organic fertilizer.

Not only does Bakerview EcoDairy make traceable milk, but it’s also ultra kid-friendly, offering a dedicated ‘resting spot’ for children at its Nature’s Pickin’s market, where you can pick up natural dairy, meat, poultry, fish and produce to take home. There’s a park for picnics, trails to amble along and a petting zoo that has sheep, calves, pigs and miniature ponies (hello). Krissy and Ingrid, the farm’s cheeky goats, roam around on the farm’s roof. In the Learning Centre, kids can watch a robotic milker at work on those blissed-out cows.

With stunning views of Mt. Baker, live animals, fresh natural food and learning opportunities for the kiddos, we think it’s worth the trip.
