Halloween Events and Outings

You’ve braved your local costume store, survived the terrifying lineups and the even scarier pleas to purchase the light-up zombie baby. Now it’s time to join in the Halloween frights and fun around Vancouver.

On our ‘must-do list’: visit a pumpkin patch. It’s not Halloween until you’ve been herded onto a hayride and hand-picked your pumpkins. Our favourite in Vancouver is the Richmond Country Farm experience, where Polly Pumpkin and Korny Corn put a smile on everyone’s face. Dress for a muddy experience and arrive early for a better parking spot in the field.

Don their costumes and head to the Haunted Village at the Burnaby Museum from October 28–30, 6–9 pm. The museum does a spooktacular job of decorating the village, kids can trick-or-treat and then join the dance party, before ending up in the old-fashioned ice-cream parlour. It’s Halloween the way it used to be.

If you’ve got timid little ones, avoid months of nightmares by taking them to Halloweenie at the Kids Market on Granville Island, October 31 from 12–3 pm. Kids can show off their costumes and parents can relax in the family-friendly atmosphere: all fun, no fright.

Go ahead, have a Halloween-inspired date night. Take the Lost Souls of Gastown walking tour for a history of Vancouver’s dark side. Leave the little ones at home for this one—you’ll learn about the murder of prospector John Bray, back when the city was a violent frontier town.

There’s lots to do around Vancouver at Halloween, but beware: many events are more for adults than smaller pumpkins. Which is why we’ve rounded up the best for families.
