There are few phrases we like more than ‘reservation for four.’
Luckily, the folks at Tourism Vancouver understand that January is a particularly cash-strapped month for parents. They make it easier for us to utter those words by putting on the Dine Out Vancouver Festival. From January 16 until February 1, 270 restaurants will offer reduced rates on fixed price menus.
Depending on the restaurant, this is your chance to dine for $18, $28 or $38 per person. Best bets for family-style dining are the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company (Kits or Main St.) or Troll’s Restaurant in Horseshoe Bay. Both offer an $18, three-course menu that will make it worth hanging up your apron. Book early and you can grab the 5 pm seating to minimize chances of hangry outbursts and cast your children in their best light.
If sit-down dining is more than your toddler can handle, check out Street Food City, a week-long smorgasbord of Vancouver’s best food trucks parked at the Vancouver Art Gallery from January 19–25.
And if you have a budding foodie in your clan, consider attending a few mouth-watering Dine Out events, like the Ultimate Mac and Cheese Dinner on January 23 or the free Chef Soup Experiment on January 16.
Two final words of advice: date night. Now’s the time to try Oru or Bacchus, and still have money to pay the babysitter.
