True Patriot Love: Canada Day in Vancouver

A toque is a hat, and a chesterfield is a couch, and we are proud to call ourselves Canadians. There are lots of places to celebrate Canada Day in Vancouver eh, and we’ve got the 411 on the best parties in town.

Go back in time at the Burnaby Village Museum. There will be blacksmith demonstrations, live entertainment and RCMP officers in full regalia roaming around the 1920’s village from 11 am until 4:30 pm.

Granville Island kicks off Canada Day with a pancake breakfast, before hosting a parade and ceremony. Our favourite is the bike decorating workshop (10 am-3 pm, Ocean Art Works), where kids can add red and white bling to their wheels and participate in the parade. Don’t forget bathing suits and towels for the water park.

Make like Canada Geese and flock to Canada Place from 10 am to 6 pm for truly Canadian entertainment on three stages, including Vancouver’s own Hannah Georgas. The parade starts at 7 pm, so bring a blanket and settle in for a full day.

If they’re still awake, take in the fireworks on Burrard Inlet at 10:30 pm. With two barges setting off the show in Dundarave and Coal Harbour, you may be able to do this closer to home—great viewing places include Kitsilano and English Bay. Tune your radio station to Rock 101 for background music.

In New Westminster, head to Queen’s Park for live entertainment, and don’t miss the pick-a-box auction.

We have the best maple syrup and country in the world, so let’s celebrate, Canada.
