Moms keen on getting a foodie-fix know that the best way to explore our city’s street food is to do some one-stop chomping at the annual Food Cart Fest.
Now in its second year, this event takes place every Sunday until September 22 from 12 to 6 pm on a vacant piece of land near Olympic Village and Cambie Bridge (215 West 1st Avenue).
As many as 20 trucks gather, and the selection of cuisines is diverse; from Indian food to seafood, Middle Eastern meatballs to fancily flavourful popsicles.
Kids will love a natural hot dog from Dougie Dog, a grilled cheese sandwich from Taser or a pizza from PazzaRella (which can easily be shared).
Moms will love The Juice Truck for their Remedy juice or their Avocado Pineapple smoothie. And don’t miss Tacofino, offering up Californian Baja-style cooking with international influences. You can’t go wrong with one of their Fish Tacos.
For this culinary adventure, don’t even contemplate skipping sun hats, sunscreen or sunglasses for every family member. There is very little shade at this spot, and if the sun is blazing, it will be a long afternoon indeed.
There’s also live music, as well as free face painting and a bouncy castle for kids.
Good to Know: There’s a bank machine on site, but it’s still best to bring cash. Remember your Vancity card if you have one, since members get in for free. For everyone else, admission is $2 with a max family rate of $5 (kids under 13 are free).
