You might still be serving Halloween candy for dessert, but we can’t help but be extra-excited about the myriad of classic (and not so classic) theatre productions filling up the city’s cultural calendar for the festive season.
We’re suggesting you escape the holiday mall madness, and treat the family to some live entertainment they won’t forget.
There’s no place like the Elgin Theatre and the annual Ross Petty holiday family musical. This year, the always funny and notoriously ‘wicked’ Canadian actor/producer is showcasing his version of The Wizard of Oz. From November 25 until January 6, you can follow the yellow brick road into the world of Dorothy, The Wizard, The Tin Man, The Scarecrow and The Lion’with a twist. This is one performance that will have your kids clicking their heels and asking for more.
If you’re looking for a unique and modern re-telling of the original Christmas Story, bundle up the kids and check out The Story by Martha Ross at the Evergreen Brick Works. Beginning December 13 until December 31, at 7:30 pm, this outdoor show brings audiences on a journey like no other across the city. Winter theatre at its best, The Story is worth the admission ($27.50 per adult, $10 per child and $20 per senior).
Good to know: Hot chocolate is sold on-site and heated washrooms are easily accessible. Also, take advantage of the preview performances on December 13 and 14 for only $10.
