Harvest Hit List

After the back-to-school bombardment of things to do, things to buy and routines to get used to, it’s a welcome relief to have a long weekend that’s all about gratitude.

We’re grateful that Toronto has an abundance of things to do over the Thanksgiving weekend so we can keep our families busy and entertained.

Parents who are poultry procrastinators are in luck. If you have yet to pick up your turkey, plan your Thanksgiving meal or figure out just what to do over the weekend, salvation (and stuffing recipe suggestions) can be found at two great spots. Hit one of the city’s best destinations for all things food—St. Lawrence Market (because it will still have a bird or two in stock). Let the kids sample great treats and sweet eats while you grab last minute items—or the entire menu for your Thanksgiving dinner. The second on our list is the Evergreen Brick Works. On Saturday, October 9, the kids will be entertained making their own eco-crafts with natural and upcycled materials, and a featured storyteller will entertain them with classic tales, rhymes and children’s folklore.

Harbourfront programs may be one of this city’s best places for kids. This weekend, you’ll be a hit if you take the kids to HarbourKIDS Harvest—a three day festival running from October 9 to 11 celebrating the wonder and beauty of fall. Hands-on crafts for kids (sun printing, making animal snouts, building a LEGO barn), along with old fashioned games (potato sack races, bean bag toss, tug-o-war, apple dash and more), music and storytelling run over all three days of Thanksgiving weekend. There’s something for everyone, so dress them warmly, prep the wallet for hot chocolate purchases and enjoy a beautiful fall day down by the lake.
