Running is a great way to be together as a family, to be active, and to be off the devices. So pick a weekend, pick a race and get to it!

Shorter distances are the key thing to look for when choosing a race you can all do together, and they’re the perfect way to introduce wee ones to the fun of running. The Lovely Spring Run Walk has a kids fun run, as do the MEC Burlington Race 1, the 5 Peaks Ontario Race, and Shoppers Run For Women.

Of course there are the big races we always hear of (and curse the traffic jams they cause) like the Yonge Street 10K, the Mississauga Marathon, the GoodLife Toronto Marathon and the Sporting Life 10K. While these events do have shorter races appropriate for families, you may find these better suited to slightly older kids (or younger kids with some fun run experience), as the crowd sizes can sometimes be intimidating.

There are tons of all-age options that let you explore the city and offer unique experiences like the Beaches Jazz Run, the Night Race where you get to wear a cool headlamp, Color Me Rad where you get blasted with colours or the Parkinsons SuperHero 5K where you come dressed to run as your favourite comic or real life hero!

And why not spin some city history into your runs like the Longboat Toronto Island Run, named after one of our most prestigious native athletes, or the Runway Run, where you get to race along the tarmac at Pearson? And everyone loves cozying up with the animals at the Oasis Zoo Run.

Whatever you choose, remember to wear proper footwear, keep hydrated, and most of all, have fun!

Looking for more ways to get out and enjoy the city? We’ve got 8 Family Festivals in Your Community so you can do just that.
