This is Where You Can See Thousands of Pumpkins Before Halloween

Pumpkinferno

It’s almost time for Halloween and your family may already be enjoying some festivities. Your kids (and you) may have the perfect costume planned out. Maybe you’ve gone to the pumpkin patch and carved your jack-o-lanterns.

This is the time of year when everyone debates whether or not The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween or Christmas movie (it’s a Halloween movie!) and The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is on everyone’s DVRs. There is so much to enjoy at this time of year at home and in the city.

But Halloween fans, there’s one event in the Ottawa area you won’t want to miss: Pumpkinferno.

Pumpkinferno has returned to Upper Canada Village for another year. This limited-time, award-winning special event showcases thousands of carved pumpkins, lighting up the night in a display of awe, and sometimes spookiness, that’s perfect for Ottawa-area families. (It’s in Morrisburg, just about an hour from Ottawa). Usually, guests visit Upper Canada Village for the opportunity to step back in time and experience village like in the 1800s. However, in September and October, it becomes the destination for pumpkin and Halloween lovers from near and far.

Here’s what you need to know about Pumpkinferno

The event is happening until Sunday, October 28 which means you only have two weekends left to take in the attraction (but it’s not open every day of the week!) Visitors are welcome between Thursday and Sunday nights, from 6:30 until 10 pm. Tickets are required for admission and it’s highly recommended that you buy your tickets online in advance because there have been sold out days already and if you drove out hoping to grab tickets at the last minute you may find yourself disappointed.

Admission is $16 for adults, $12 for children 5-12 years old and children 4 years old and younger are free.

Want to save a few dollars? Here’s our tip: Make plans to go on Thursday nights, between 6:30 and 10 pm, when tickets are discounted.

If you can’t make it for Thursday night, you still have the rest of the weekend as an option. Tickets are available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between 6:30 and 10 pm. Last tickets are sold at 9:30 pm when there is still availability, but again, buying online will be your best bet to ensure tickets don’t sell out. And we suspect it will only get busier the closer we are to Halloween!

What to expect

As you can see by the photos, there is so much to see at Pumpkinferno.

Thousands of pumpkins are on display in astonishing ways and your family will have a difficult time deciding which pumpkins are your favourite. Maybe everyone will be excited about the pumpkin hockey players, or the dinosaurs. No matter which ones catch your eye the most, we think you’ll all love strolling around the path to see the way the pumpkins light up the night.

If you are planning to grab a bite to eat while there, you’ll be happy to know that there are restaurants on site. Here’s another tip: You can make a pre-tour dining reservation for an hour before the gates open. What a great way to get something to eat, and beat some of the crowds. Online tickets are required in advance if you are making dining reservations.

If you are excited to see over 7000 pumpkins used in a variety of talented carved displays, make plans to buy your tickets and enjoy the amazing exhibits at this special, once-a-year event that we are sure will become a new yearly tradition for many Ottawa families.
