Fun Family Activities and Events Happening in November

Ottawa Guide to November

November can sometimes feel like an in-between month; with Thanksgiving and Halloween activities from October all done, and new holiday festivities in December quickly approaching, November sits in between two hectic (and exciting) months for families.

And yet, in Ottawa, November marks the chance for families to participate in many special events, fun-filled activities and often is the kick-off month for holiday events like Santa Claus parades and more. There are plenty of ways to keep the kids busy all month long. We’ve rounded up a few events and activities that we think you’ll want to mark down in your calendar for November.

Stittsville Pumpkin Parade

On November 1st, right after all of your family’s Halloween fun (and while everyone is recovering from eating too much candy and maybe staying up too late) Stittsville is extending Halloween festivities by one day. At 7 pm, come stroll in Village Square Park and check out the Jack-o-Lanterns during the pumpkin parade. There are prizes from local businesses too.

Rockcliffe Park Book Fair

From November 1 until November 3 you’ll want to bring the kids and visit the Rockcliffe Park Book Fair where you can leave with a stack of new-to-you books! The kids will love spending time at the kid’s craft table and parents can get a beverage at the cafe. In addition to books, there will be used vinyl albums, games and puzzles available for sale.

Join the Cookie Run

Register you and the kids (aged 6-12) for the Cookie Run on November 2! The 5 Km run or 1 Km run for kids is all to raise funds for the Girl Guides of Canada.  Who wouldn’t want to run for cookies? T-shirts, snacks and medals are included in registration and participants have the chance to win prizes. This year’s event has sold out, but there is last-minute availability that means you can race, but aren’t guaranteed the t-shirt or medal unless there are extras at the end.

Articulture Weekend

Spend the weekend creating art that is inspired by agriculture on November 9 and 10 at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. There are special crafts planned for the kids and artist meet and greets, but in addition to the general admission opportunities, there are art workshops for kids aged 10-14 and for adults that require separate registration. All of the registration details are on the Facebook event page.

Ottawa Comiccon: Holiday Edition

On November 9 and 10th, the Holiday edition of Ottawa Comiccon invites families to shop a huge arrange of pop culture and geeky merchandise. There are family-friendly offerings throughout and a lot of Cosplay opportunities. You’ll love the free admission too! It’s all happening at the EY Centre.

Matilda at Meridian Theatres by Centrepointe

The story of an extraordinary girl is coming to a stage near you as Orpheus Musical Theatre presents Matilda The Musical at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe from November 22 until December 1. Tickets are available for 7 pm showtimes as well as a 2 pm Matinee (on November 24th and December 1st only). Tickets are going quickly to this very popular and well-loved show!

Frozen 2 screening with prince and princesses

The sequel to the very popular Disney’s Frozen is arriving in theatres in November and it’s sure to be a hit like the first one; none of our kids have been able to let it go. (Groan… but we had to!) Your kids can watch the screening with princesses and princes as a part of a special screening event presented by Fairytale Princess Parties! Tickets are available for a meet and greet on November 23rd or November 24th at 9:30 am followed by the 10 am showing of the movie. Tickets need to be purchased in advance online. Tickets are $25.
