Sometimes, kids—as cute and wonderful and sweet as they can be—are really tough to buy for on birthdays and during the holidays. Especially when you have a middle or younger kid who is fully stocked in toys and clothes and HAS ALL THE THINGS they could ever need.
My middle daughter is that kid.
Yet, at the same time, I want her to feel special—especially on her birthday. Being a middle kid is hard. Someone is always fighting with her. She’s always trying to keep the peace and please everyone. She’s constantly wearing hand-me-downs (and is okay with it, too.) And on top of it all, she’s a December baby, and it can be tough to make December birthday kids feel special.
So, when her birthday rolls around, I want her to know without a doubt that she’s unique and special and wonderful.
Last year, I had a friend make a big, beautiful, over-the-top gorgeous unicorn cake. Because, 5-year-olds and unicorns, right??
This year, I’m really excited to have the chance to give her a super-cute personalized book, called The Birthday Thief.
The book opens with “Today was Lauren’s birthday! Her party started soon…” and continues with gorgeous illustrations, personalized images and a storyline that follows the main character (your kid) on an adventure to find their stolen birthday. It’s sweet and cute and promotes reading. I’d say that’s a win! And if your child loves the novelty of seeing their name and birthdate in printing, they’ll love this.
The company that created The Birthday Thief—Wonderbly—also created Lost My Name, another hugely popular personalized kids’ book. They seem to be all about magic and whimsy and fun. So they’re a-okay in my books.
Let’s face it—kids don’t need a lot of ‘things’. Toys get played with for a little bit and then set aside. Books are great… but sometimes you want the gift to feel a little more special. I’ve long been a fan of personalized gifts, so I was pretty stoked when I was lucky enough to have this book sent to me.
It costs $33.99 CAD, so as far as books go, it’s a touch on the pricey side. But I truly think it’s worth the cost if you know your kid will love this extra-special type of present.
And what kid doesn’t love having something made just for them that they don’t have to share with their siblings?
I just wish I didn’t have to wait until December to give it to her.
