Vancouver and the Lower Mainland have so much to offer sports fans. Not only is heading out to a game a great way to take in a new experience, it also makes for a really awesome family outing. Here’s a ‘bucket list’ of Vancouver sporting events for you to enjoy some quality, fun time.
Hockey
Taking in a Vancouver Canucks game is such a fun thing to experience as a family downtown Vancouver at Rogers Arena. Watching the home team take to the ice in pursuit of the Stanley Cup is such a rush. Fin, the team mascot, is a hit with the kids and training camp practice times were even open to the public, free of charge this year.
Another great option is a Vancouver Giants game at the Langley Events Centre. They even have birthday party packages for the sports fan in your life. Kids over two require their own tickets to attend games and they have family packs available to make dinner and a game more affordable.
Lacrosse
The Vancouver Stealth play NLL lacrosse out of the Langley Events Centre. Lacrosse is Canada’s national sport and a fast paced, fun-filled game. Bomber the Fox is their mascot and they offer weekly skill sessions with local youth lacrosse players for a fee before the games. They also have a junior cheer program for local cheer enthusiasts.
Another way to take in a lacrosse game as a family is a Senior A level team like the Salmonbellies in New Westminster. They made it all the way to the Mann cup in 2017 and they are a really affordable way to try lacrosse on for size.
Baseball
Take them out to the ball game with the Vancouver Canadians. The C’s were this year’s NWL Champions and the kids will love doing the chicken dance, singing along with the crowd and grabbing a hot dog that’s up to 3 feet long (they even have turkey legs!) The baseball culture at Nat Bailey Stadium has infectious enthusiasm. Even if you’re not really a baseball person, you’re going to love the experience of the crowd. The team mascots are Bob Brown Bear and also a foursome of sushi that race each other on the field during the game.
Soccer
If your kids play soccer and want to see the professionals hit the field, watching the Whitecaps FC is the way to do it. The mascot is Spike, the belted kingfisher. And they have birthday packages and family packs that make taking in a game even more affordable.
Even for the not-so-crazy sports fans, events in Vancouver are plentiful. And they’re a great way to have fun with everyone in the fam.
