Family outings in Ontario are about to get easier – and cheaper! As revealed in the government’s fall economic statement, the Ontario government is intending to build on the “Fun Pass” program established in 2006.
The current program allows school-aged children free access to sixteen popular Ontario attractions. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and currently, only two children per adult can get in for free, however that may change once the new initiative comes into place.
The details and timeline of the initiative have not yet been released. While the government will model the new program based on the existing one, some details (such as the number of children given access) may change.
According to Lisa MacLeod, the minister of heritage, sport, tourism and culture industries, the initiative is meant to promote local tourism and investment in Ontario businesses while preserving Ontario’s cultural identity.
It’s also fun! It’s a great way for Ontario families to spend time together, exploring and learning, without breaking the bank.
