I find that my party décor tastes have changed a little over the last few years, and my new approach to making a space look festive is to go for an understated yet celebratory vibe. I still love balloons and bunting, of course, but sometimes I think it’s nice to have just one statement piece that clearly displays what occasion is being celebrated.
At least that’s how I’m approaching my Canada Day party décor this year. Instead of making fabric bunting like I’ve done in years past, or hanging red and white banners across the backyard, I’ve created one large vase with a bunch of flags to set in the middle of my table. I have yet to decide if it’s going to go in the centre of the outdoor dining table, at the end of my buffet table, or in the front entrance of my home on a console table. Chances are it may change location over the course of a few days, which is totally okay, too.
For me, this simple yet striking approach to seasonal décor suits my style more these days. The flags, which I picked up from the dollar store, can be used over and over in the years to come, and they store lying down flat so they take up very little space. There is no waste, and no plastic packaging to contend with.
To create the look in the photo I used a vase that I already own and filled it with 12 flags attached to wooden dowels. I toyed with the idea of using a few different sized flags, but in the end I kept things as simple as possible.
Tell me, are you showing your patriotic pride with party this week? How are you decorating your space?
