Tucked behind trees and near an open grassy area of Major Hill’s Park, you’ll find the newest patio to grab a bite or something to drink this summer.
We aren’t surprised that Tavern on the Hill has already become a go-to place for Ottawa residents and tourists to visit. With a casual but fun vibe, great bites and gorgeous, Instagram-worthy views, you’ll want to add this to your own summer bucket list.
We love that it’s family friendly, so don’t worry about taking the kids after you walk through downtown, tour a local attraction, or visit a nearby museum (you can actually see the National Art Gallery from the patio). This is a place where you can feel like you are in your own backyard, but your backyard happens to look over the Ottawa River and Parliament Hill.
The gourmet hot dogs are for foodies and non-foodies alike. Adventurous kids and parents can order a delectable bite based on a worldly visit, like the Italian – with olives, pepperoni, prosciutto and mozzarella. Or grab something with a little more local flare like the Montrealer topped with Dijon, smoked meat and pickles.
If your taste buds need simple, or you know your kids just want a traditional hot dog with ketchup, that’s available too (and will only set you back $2.50). Veggie dogs and gluten-free buns are also available.
There are cold drinks at the bar for the whole family but parents may be tempted by the huge selection of beers on tap and wines to choose from. We also love that they serve ice cream (and we know that this will be a highlight for ice cream-loving kids!)
Parking is available downtown on the side streets or at a paid lot. If you want to really maximize your time in the area, plan to enjoy the downtown before or after your visit to the restaurant.
Hot dogs and cold drinks, all served with a view that is clearly Ottawa is why we think Tavern on the Hill will be a popular destination for families in Ottawa this summer.
