Grandma’s special sweet potatoes, our savvy make-ahead green beans, the tablecloth with the little embroidered turkeys, and Uncle Henry snoring (while eating) at the table every year—it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without these traditions.
We’re also eager to establish new ones with our own families though, and we’ve decided that an easy way to do that is to get out and explore a few things our city has to offer over Thanksgiving weekend.

Visit Carleton’s Biology Department Butterfly Show
Imagine walking around a greenhouse packed with lush tropical plants—while butterflies flit around, settling on the occasional branch, t-shirt, or flower-shaped feeder. There are over 30 different species to observe and admire. Keep in mind that the paths in the greenhouse are narrow and not very stroller compatible and that it is very humid in the greenhouse so dressing in layers is a good idea. BYOOS (Bring Your Own Orange Slices) in a small container. Butterflies love them and you might even attract a new friend. (On October 3 to 12, 9 am – 4 pm)
