Step back in time and into Christmas at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum during the month of December. As darkness falls, the lights decorating the historic buildings—and a huge sleigh pulled by reindeer—begin to twinkle as you experience rural village life during the 1920s and 1930s.
We love the history imparted by the knowledgeable staff as kids happily decorate their gingerbread cookies. Youngsters love the chance to stop at the village school and the community centre to get crafty with old-fashioned button tree ornaments, Plasticine dolls and clothespin airplanes.
The first stop for any visitor, big or small, is the Train Station to send off a quick telegram to Santa. Replies will be waiting on your departure, so be good for goodness sake! In the meantime, a stop at Foubert House for an in-person visit with the kind Mr. Claus is a must. If kids are eager to see Santa, make him your first destination to allow for a relaxed wander through the rest of the village.
The Vintage Christmas Village of Lights takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday this month from 3 pm to 8 pm until December 23. Regular admission to the village costs $18 per family, $7 for adults and $5 for students.
