Have a blast and support local theatre with two great family shows. We’re betting Mary Poppins at the Ron Maslin Playhouse in Kanata will be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. All the great songs are here, like ‘Spoonful of Sugar’ and ‘Let’s Go Fly a Kite’, along with some new classics. Tickets are just $10 each and there are family-friendly matinees every day of the run from December 27 through December 30.
If original music is more your style, try the absolutely hilarious and interactive show Freezing at The Gladstone, where audience members are invited to boo the bad guy, cheer the good guy, and join in for a singalong. There’s a 20% discount for groups of 10 or more, so gather up all the family or the neighbourhood kids and have a blast. The show runs until January 3 and there are plenty of convenient matinees.
If the littles are too wound up to sit through a show, the holiday season is the best time to visit the Museum of Nature. Not only is the space bright and kid-friendly, there are also plenty of interactive exhibits to help burn off steam and lots of cool creepy crawlies to explore in their current special exhibit, Bugs: Outside the Box. The best part? Their limited time tri-ticket combo deal gets you regular admission, special exhibits, plus a 3-D movie for just $15 per child, and it’s totally free for kids under 3; pack a lunch and you can keep ‘em busy the whole day for a song.
