With the holiday season fast approaching, we’re starting to see the first trickle of gift guides and sparkly decorations all around us. Our Pinterest boards are slowly filling up with DIY ideas for festive décor and customized gifts. If you’ve been thinking about making your own, now is the time, before things get far too hectic. Thanks to the new DIY Style Co., you can learn how to make gorgeous holiday gifts and décor yourself, while having fun with friends.
It’s only a few months old, but owners Gemma Bonham-Carter and Caroline Eyvindson are helping women in the Ottawa area discover (or rediscover) their own crafting abilities while mingling with friends and creating beautifully crafted items to take home. Think you aren’t crafty enough to attend? Think again.
What We Loved:
We loved the gorgeous jewelry making workshop we attended. It was clear that going into the workshop, the skill levels for each participant varied. Some seemed to know how to handle a wire cutter with ease, while others were a bit more hesitant. However, we were offered encouragement and guidance from Gemma and Caroline throughout the evening and could feel our confidence in the process increasing as the night wore on. All materials and instruction were provided during the workshop making it very easy to follow along. We all proudly draped our newly created necklaces on our necks at the end of the evening.
Upcoming Workshops
Now we can’t wait to see the finished products from the upcoming Holiday Gift Workshop and the Holiday Decoration Workshop. At the Holiday Gift Workshop on November 19, everyone will be creating their own gifts for loved ones (or themselves—we won’t tell!) Is there a better gift to give than one that you’ve made with love and thoughtfulness? We think the jewelry bowls, stamped leather luggage tags and wooden painted ornaments will be perfect under any Christmas tree.
On November 27, spend time creating decorations for your holiday mantle by making custom wreaths, advent calendar and bunting that will be the envy of everyone who visits your home for the holidays. DIY has never been so easy. The DIY Style Co. Workshops are an inventive way to get the creative juices flowing while laughing with friends or meeting new people.
Good to Know
Workshop locations depend on the number pf people registered. Gemma and Caroline will let participants know the location, (which is always within a few minutes of downtown, no further west than Westboro and east than Vanier) at least one week in advance.
