Workshops for Moms & Babies in Ottawa

mom and baby classes Ottawa

When you have a baby, everything feels like you are learning something new. Your baby is going through so many firsts, but so are you, mama! Even though you may have taken multiple pregnancy and birth classes leading up to the arrival of your new bundle of joy, there are still learning opportunities for you and your baby to enjoy together. It’s a bit of a ‘mom university’ if you will!

Thinking about taking a class or workshop this spring? Here are some in Ottawa that you’ll want to save the date for.

Loose Parts Play Workshop

This event is hosted by local blogger and educator Vanessa Ravalico who will help you learn about “loose parts play” that encourages open-ended, creative and imaginative playtime while your child explores and discovers new toys and experiences. Happening at Wild Child Coffee Project on March 8 at 9 am, both you and your little one will be encouraged to get creative and hands-on! Registration is $10 per child (and you can bring more than one child). This workshop is recommended for children aged 6 months to 4 years old. More information can be found on the event website.

Baby Sign Language

Mellow Baby is hosting a sign language workshop series for you and your baby in Westboro at Fab Baby Gear on Wednesdays at 11:30 am, and other locations in Ottawa throughout the week including Barrhaven and Kanata. This four-week session beginning in February (with another session being offered in April) will teach you baby signing through music, stories and plenty of interaction. It’s a great opportunity to uncover a new way to communicate together.

Parenting in Ottawa at the Ottawa Public Library

If you have questions about parenting but don’t want to commit to a series or specific workshop, every Tuesday at 10 am, the Ottawa Public Library Beaverbrook Branch invites parents to bring their questions to chat with a public health nurse about parenting. This drop-in weekly event is for parents with a newborn up to age 6 years old. Can’t make it to that location or on Tuesdays? Visit the Parenting in Ottawa website to find other drop-in locations.

Infant Massage

Register for an infant massage workshop with the Ottawa Childbirth Education Association and learn relaxation techniques for your baby through massage. You’ll be able to connect and bond through touch while discovering the benefits of massage for your baby. Registration is intended for pre-crawling babies and includes handouts and massage oil.

Parent and Infant French Demo

Introduce French to your infant and enjoy some time together singing, playing and meeting others on February 28 with 123 Petits Pas (an organization dedicated to introducing French as a second language to young children and their parents). This event is taking place at Morning Owl Coffee in Kanata at 9:30 am and will be a free 30-minute demonstration of a beginner parent and infant French class. Registration details can be found on their Facebook page, which is also a great place to keep up with future events!
