Imagine the scenario: The babysitter has arrived and the kids are occupied. You’ve swiped one last coat of lipstick over your lips, and you’re getting ready to walk out the door to one of the many holiday parties you’ve been invited too. As you collect your purse and tie your scarf you realize you forgot to pick up the all important hostess gift.
This has happened to me more times than I can count, and thankfully, I’ve been able to save myself from embarrassment by having a few ideas in my back-pocket for last minutes gifts that can be found in my own home, or even en route to my destination. Keep some cellophane bags, ribbon, Mason jars, scissors, and gift tags on hand (or in your car), and you’ll be able to pack up any of the last-minute gifts easily and prettily without any worry.
From your own kitchen:
If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen you likely have many pantry items than can quickly double as cheery homemade hostess gifts. Jams and jellies are always well received, as are fresh baked cookies, s’mores fudge, hot cocoa mix, and fun packages like our DIY ice cream sundae kit that will be a hit with anyone who receives it.
From the grocery store:
You’d be surprised just how many great last-minute gifts can be curated from the aisles of your local grocery store. Gourmet cheeses, fresh fruits like pineapples and pomegranates, and exotic spices (skip common favourites like cinnamon and sage) can all be perfectly packaged for a gift any hip hostess would be happy to receive.
From the gas station:
When regular stores have closed for the day, you’re left with nothing but the corner gas station with which to get creative and put together a gift you’d be happy to receive. Stack an assortment of oversized candy bars and tie them with colourful ribbon, pick up a magazine, tear out the subscription card (which you’ll send in the next day) and gift your hostess with a present they’ll be able to enjoy all year long. Lastly, don’t forget about gift cards, gas cards, and lottery tickets, all of which can usually be found at popular gas stations with large convenience stores.
