Kid-Friendly Things To Do in Ottawa in February

Kid Friendly Things to do in February

February is a short month, but it’s not short on activities for families to enjoy all month long! Don’t let the weather keep you from experiencing all that Ottawa has to offer in February. Grab your calendars and get ready to mark off these dates for you and the kids.

Wonderful Winterlude Celebrations

Between January 31 and February 17, Winterlude returns to the nation’s capital to celebrate the season of snow and outdoor fun. Families will love participating in one of the many city-wide activities and special events taking place during Winterlude. Don’t miss the outdoor playground at Snowflake Kingdom (and go sliding down the hills!) or the special activities planned at various restaurants, museums and other locations.

Fête Frissons

Returning to the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans, and as a part of Winterlude Celebrations, save the date for Fete Frissons, a free event. From 10 am until 2 pm on Saturday, February 1st, join in the festivities! You’ll find live music, dancing, arts and crafts, and hands-on learning opportunities for kids of all ages. Visit their website for full event details.

Valentine’s Day Dinner at IKEA

We love this unique Valentine’s Day opportunity that can include the entire family. IKEA (located on Pinecrest in Ottawa) is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner for two for $34.99 (or $29.99 if you are IKEA family members) and the children’s meal is only $3.49! Dinner is served between 4:30 and 7:30 pm (check out that early start time; perfect for families with young children!). Tickets can be purchased at the restaurant check out (you may want to do that in advance just in case this event sells out.)

Animal Tracks Earth Path

Curious kids and their parents can learn about animal tracks with expert tracker and naturalist, Chad Clifford, as she demonstrates basic animal tracking. Find out what animals cause those prints you are seeing in the snow and your children are asking about! This interactive outdoor activity takes place on February 9th at 11 am. Learn about the animals who live here and the evidence they leave behind. Registration is required and more information, including how to register, can be found on their website.

Carlingwood Winter Carnival

Join the Carlingwood Community Association on February 9th for their annual winter carnival! The event begins at 11 am until 2 pm in Woodroofe Park. Roast a marshmallow and warm up by the fire, join in the donut-eating contest, grab a bite of chilli or a hot dog and cuddle up on a horse-drawn wagon ride through the neighbourhood. The event strives to be eco-friendly and encourages you to bring your own cups, bowls and cutlery if possible to reduce waste.

Ottawa Children’s Gala

The 10th annual Ottawa Children’s Gala is a formal gala with a twist; this isn’t just for adults. Children and adults will enjoy special entertainment at the Infinity Convention Centre on February 22nd. Dress in your favourite fancy clothes and hit the red carpet for photos from a professional photographer. Your ticket will also give you a delicious meal, and a dance. This night to remember is all in support of CHEO. Grab your tickets for the entire family on their website.

Make and Take: Heart Slime For Kids

At Funhaven on February 15th, slime-loving kids will enjoy a ‘make and take’ slime activity with Kalise, 10-year-old owner of Kalise’s Slime Factory and Workshop. Learn how to make heart and glitter slime for some extended Valentine’s Day fun! This is a DIY that kids will love to make and parents will like that the mess is made somewhere other than their own house! Containers will be provided and supplies for the slime is included. Tickets are available on the Facebook page.
