Peppermints are a holiday classic, and their colour and flavour go well with the Christmas season. In addition to being a popular sweet to pass around at this time of year, these cool candies can also easily be transformed into hanging ornaments that the kids can make to brighten up the Christmas tree.
Requiring nothing more than the candies themselves, some string or baker’s twine, and an oven (toaster ovens are perfect for this project, too!), you can let the kids loose to come up with their own edible creations.
These sweet ornaments would look lovely on a mini tree that’s placed on a dessert table, and they can also be used to adorn gifts and packages. Personalize them by writing names or initials on the surface with edible markers. Really, the possibilities are endless.
You could also make a garland by following the ornament instructions below, but putting a hole in both sides of the candy instead of just at the top. String them all together and hang or use to decorate a cake or other holiday baked good.
Here’s how to make them:
You’ll Need:
- Peppermint candies
- parchment paper
- toothpick
- string or baker’s twine
Preheat your oven or toaster oven to 275°F and line a small baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the mints 2 or 3 inches apart. Bake for 4’6 minutes, remove from the oven and press down gently if they haven’t begun to melt. Allow to cool for 1 minute. To make the hole, press a toothpick into the top of the candy and wiggle it around a few times. Once cool, thread strings through the hole and tie a knot at the top.
