Trying to figure out what’s for dinner tonight? It looks like Albertans have more lockdown ahead of us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still get our hands on some incredible food in Calgary. While the options for delicious and convenient takeout in YYC are endless, we’ve narrowed the list down to 10 that are making our mouths water so you can get to the good stuff – bon appétit!
1. Pigot’s Burger Club | pigotsburgerclub.com
Pigot’s Burger Club is a popup burger joint that recently opened in Calgary. Chef Mike Pigot has a lot of accolades under his belt, including “Guy’s Grocery Games” champ, so you can rest assured that he knows what he’s doing in the kitchen. The menu at Pigot’s is simple with burgers, fries and tater tots, but don’t let that fool you. Foodies in the city who have already rushed to be one of the first to try his burgers will agree – they’re completely out of this world. If you want to get your hands on a burger from Pigot’s, you’ll have to order it for delivery through Uber Eats, Skip the Dishes, or Doordash – pickup is unavailable.
2. Shiki Menya | shiki-menya.com
824 1 Avenue NE
Shiki Menya is a cult favourite in Calgary. If you’ve ever wanted to try their legendary ramen but couldn’t bring yourself to stand in the ever-present line outside, this is your chance! Their first avenue corner store has all kinds of mouth-watering offerings, including Flamin’ Cheeto chicken sandos, curry poutine, and wagyu cheese katsu curry, but you cannot order from them without getting the chili goma ramen kit. You won’t regret it. I promise. Order on Skip or in-store for take out.
3. Jin Bar | jinbar.ca
24 4 Street NE
If you love Korean fried chicken (or have been dying to try it) put Jin Bar at the top of your list for your next takeout order. Jin Bar’s fried chicken comes in 5 different flavours, including original, garlic honey butter, korean chili glaze, and jalapeño soy glaze. They also have tasty snacks like bulgogi poutine, popcorn chicken, braised pork belly taco, fries and more. Order online or call ahead for pickup, or get it delivered on Skip.
4. Scarpetta | scarpettaeatery.com
1003 9 Avenue Southeast
If you’ve got a family of pasta lovers, Scarpetta’s got you covered. They’ve got delicious pasta favourites like fettuccini, lasagna, and carbonara, as well as risotto, chicken parmesan, arancini, bruschetta and more. They also have a wide range of hand-stretched pizzas, and (maybe most importantly) dessert like cheesecake and tiramisu. In addition, they have a large selection of take and bake options, like pizza kits, lasagna and chicken marsala. E-mail your take and bake order or order delivery through Uber Eats.
5. Alumni Sandwiches | alumnisandwiches.com
725 17 Avenue SW
I have heard nothing but great things about this sandwich spot that recently opened on 17th Ave. Although I haven’t made my way there yet, I’ve heard that the chicken parmesan sandwich is incredible, and I’ve definitely also got my eye on the roasted turkey and brie sandwich. They’ve got a variety of yummy sides, including parmesan fries and charred broccoli, as well as a few soup and salad options. Order online or call ahead for pickup.
6. Crispy Crust Pizzeria | crispycrust.com
464 B Woodbine Boulevard SW
Crispy Crust might be tucked away in a strip mall in the southwest community of Woodbine, but it’s known across the city as having some of the most incredible pizza you’ll ever eat. This authentic Greek pizzeria tucks all of their fresh ingredients under a thick layer of perfectly baked cheese. You’ll be dreaming about it until you get your next slice! Call to order and receive 15% off on all pickup orders.
7. The Moose and Poncho | talech.com
132 3 Ave SE Unit #18
For authentic Mexican food, look no further than The Moose and Poncho. They’ve got individual tacos, taco kits, quesadillas, salsa and chips, guacamole, and more. The taco kits come in a variety of flavour selections including carnitas, birra beef shank, campechano, guajolote tinga, and frijoles. They even have everybody’s favourite for dessert – churros! Order online for contactless pickup.
8. Blowers and Grafton | blowersgrafton.com
2 locations – 709 Edmonton Trail NE and 4 Street SW
East coasters missing the taste of Halifax have said that Blowers and Grafton offers a dang close taste of home, especially when it comes to their donairs and garlic fingers. They’ve got an extensive menu with poutine, pizza, seafood and chowder options that will hopefully be enough to tide anyone missing the coast over until their next trip back home (sea what I did there? Help! I can’t stop!) Order delivery on Skip the Dishes.
9. Pelican Pier | pelicanpier.ca
4404 14 Street NW
Pelican Pier is a family-owned restaurant and seafood market that’s been a staple in Calgary for 20 years. The cod fish and chips, coconut shrimp and fish tacos are fan favourites, but they have just about every seafood dish you can think up on their menu (as well as a few chicken options if you have someone in the family who doesn’t like fish). They also recently started offering meal kits for 2, which can be taken home and cooked up yourself! Order online or over the phone for pickup; they also have delivery available.
10. V Burger | heyvburger.com
819 17 Avenue SW
Vegans and vegetarians rejoice! If you’ve been missing the nostalgia of grabbing takeout from a classic burger joint, V Burger might be just what you’re looking for. V Burger has a huge menu of vegan selections of all your fast food faves, including burgers, poutine, cauli fritters, chik’n bites, shakes and more. Call or order online for contactless pickup or delivery!
