I’m pretty obsessed with making flavourful drinks at home, infusing my favourite liquids with the best tastes of the season. I’ve been known to down bottles of homemade strawberry rhubarb soda, add a splash of blueberry syrup to a glass of sparkling water or lemonade, and drop a few cocktail cherries into a chilled gin and tonic.
My girlfriend always comments, ‘You never know what you’re going to be drinking at Jan’s house’’and I admit it’s true. She was here one evening last week and we whipped up these peach and ginger sodas for us to share with the kids. A quick spice-infused syrup was made, poured over thinly sliced peaches, then divided among the glasses and topped with sparkling water. The sprig of mint isn’t necessary, but it looks nice and adds a subtle hint of flavour, so try not to skip that step.
Do you make homemade sodas? What is your favourite drink to serve this summer?
