It’s Fun to Sweat at the YMCA

YMCA Central event

We all know the song. How many of you can see the four letters and not immediately throw your hands up in a “Y”? For decades, we have been reminded that it’s fun to stay at the YMCA, but did you know it’s fun to sweat there too?

Whether you’re a young man (or woman) or savvy senior, buff body or novice, the YMCA of the Greater Toronto Area is proud to offer programs and services to help you reach your fitness goals. Be it yoga, swimming, martial arts, aquafit, boot camp, and so much more, the YMCA wants to see you sweat your way to success and help support you in your journey to health.

On January 11, the YMCA (Central location) will offer you the opportunity to not just break a sweat, but to try to break a GUINNESS WORD RECORDS title! Join them from 6:00-9:30 am as they go after the coveted title of Largest Exercise Ball Demonstration/Class and be a part of history. In addition to adding World Record Holder to your title, you can enjoy a light breakfast, take in a talk by Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Tewksbury, grab some free swag, and rock out to the talents of a live DJ and Arriba Dancers.

Even better than the perks above, participating in the event helps to support the YMCA GTA’s Sweat for Good campaign. Choosing to sweat with the YMCA isn’t just good for you, it helps to support positive change for others and the community around you.

As the GTA’s largest charitable program and service delivery system, the YMCA continues its 160 year mission of providing opportunities for personal growth, community involvement, and leadership. When you choose to sweat at the YMCA, you are part of a greater purpose. You become an instrument of hope and change. You don’t just sweat for yourself, you sweat to support life-saving programs for children and youth, financial assistance to over 54,000 people, essential guidance for newcomers to Canada, employment help, and many more community outreach efforts. Each bead of sweat you drop represents a life you have touched.

You also support your own physical and mental well-being. It’s a win for everyone, and worth getting yourself worked up over. Put simply, sweating at the YMCA is good for your heart, in more ways than one.

Why is sweat important? Anyone who has ever finished a workout knows the elation of wearing their soaking wet shirt as a badge of honour. It is tangible proof of hard work and determination. Sweat is universal. It connects us; it signifies a shared experience of passion and drive. What better way to represent the YMCA GTA?

Check out the big deal about sweat in this amazing video by Sweat for Good. (Warning, this video will make you want to lace up your runners.)

We hope to see you bounce your way into the record books with the YMCA on January 11, and continue to support your community with each YMCA work out. Sweat for you. Sweat for your community. Sweat for Good.
