Have you got a little journalist in your house? Here’s a pretty cool summer camp for kids if you do.
The British Columbia Institute of Technology is offering up a Broadcast & Media Summer Camp for kids aged 8-12 at their Burnaby campus. Your kids will get a hands-on experience at the Broadcast Centre which includes doing a little of everything, such as interviewing, reporting and learning how to produce a news show.
I don’t know about you – but when I was a kid I used to record myself ‘reporting the news’ on my little tape deck for hours. I would then insist everyone in my family listen to it. “This is Heather Dixon, reporting live from my bedroom with my stuffed animals.” I then graduated to cooking shows when we got our first camcorder (which was the size of a large microwave back then. I’m dating myself aren’t I?)
Anyway, I digress. Basically, BCIT’s camp is kind of a dream for my inner child. If your kids are into this kind of thing, they could have a lot of fun doing their own sports or entertainment segment. They can even try out the green screen technology and report on the weather. Cute much?
The week-long camp offers up some outdoor playtime as well. The hours run from 8:30am to 3:30pm, but they also offer an after-care service for an extra $60 per week that runs from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
So far, the week of July 24-28 is sold out, but you can be put on a waiting list. Or you can try their other two options:
Week of July 10 -14 (next week)
Week of July 17-21
