The City of Calgary has all kinds of free family-friendly activities in store for Canada Day 2019. Slather on your sunscreen and dig out your best red and white outfit, because you won’t want to miss a single minute of the fun! There are so many amazing things to see and do that we couldn’t fit them all in this list, but here’s a taste of what you can find happening around downtown Calgary this July 1st. Don’t forget to find the perfect spot to catch the fireworks, which will be set off from the Centre Street Bridge at 11 pm!
Powwow & Indigenous Showcase
11 am – 5 pm
Prince’s Island Park

Canada’s First Peoples will be inviting Calgarians of all ages to enjoy the sights, sounds, and stories of their culture. Hoop dancers, Métis dancers and entertainers, hip hop acts including Muskwa Lightning and Status Savage, traditional Round Dances, Medicine Wheel teachings, language teachings, regalia and drumming, storytelling and songs, smudging ceremonies and more will be taking place on the stages, field, and in the tipis and Métis tent at Prince’s Island Park.
East Village Street Fair
10 am – 4 pm

The East Village Neighbourhood Association will be hosting over 80 street vendors, food trucks, live music, cultural dancing, balloon twisters, face painters and more, next to the community playground and dog park. Make your way down to 439 8 Avenue SE, where the Bounce Games Park will have games, basketball, art and more.

After checking out the happenings in the East Village, head over to Studio Bell, where you can check out their five floors full of musical exhibitions for free! In addition to their everyday exhibits, there will be music and pop-up activities, an all-star Canadian duelling pianos performance, an Oh-Canada singalong, barn dances and more.
Célébration Franco-Albertaine

Prince’s Island Park

There’s so much to see and do at Prince’s Island Park! Kids of all ages are sure to love the carnival and interactive games which will be taking place all day, as well as the Canada Day-themed arts and crafts and storytelling by Mrs. Frog. Everyone in the family will find it impossible to resist the food tent with items like poutine and smoked meat, as well as the maple taffy truck. There will also be Francophone multicultural music and mascots Brisebois and Frogrenouille who will be ready for selfies throughout the day!
Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre

The Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre will be hosting a variety of multicultural activities and performances for spectators to enjoy, in addition to tasty, authentic food for everyone to try!
Canada Day at Eau Claire

If free ice cream (while supplies last) isn’t enough to get you down to Eau Claire Market on Canada Day, face painting, airbrush tattoos, a petting zoo, a magician, children’s crafts, an artisan market, food truck, and live music and dancing should do the trick! Make sure to bring your swimsuit, because the wading pool at Eau Claire Market will be hard to resist if the weather is nice.
Celebrations at the New Central Library

What better place to celebrate the unique and beautiful stories that make Canada so incredible than at the stunning New Central Library? The library will be hosting all kinds of special activities to celebrate our nation’s birthday, such as story times, Indigenous crafts, a Canadian Film Festival, music performances, and even a road hockey game!
Canada Day at Fort Calgary

Canada Day is the perfect day to explore some of the history of both our city and our country. Try on Mountie uniforms, examine artifacts, and discover the Indigenous Learning space. Temporary tattoos, face painting and a family-friendly outdoor beer garden are just a few of the fun things you’ll find to do at Fort Calgary on July 1st!
Tim Horton’s Canada Day Stage

The cherry on top of a fun-filled day is definitely going to be the awesome lineup of local and Canadian bands gracing the Tim Horton’s Canada Day Stage. Ghostkeeper will kick things off at 7 pm, followed by PostScript at 8 pm. Edmonton’s Captain Tractor will start their set at 9 pm, and Steven Page (from the popular Canadian band, Barenaked Ladies) will be playing tunes at 10 pm to get ready for 2019’s Canada Day Fireworks display!
