We’re in the midst of a few long, cold months. We know all the benefits of getting our children playing outside, but knowing it and doing it in winter are two different things. That’s why we’re stoked the city’s first tube park has opened at WinSport. Families of all ages can now get a spine tingling rush at Acura Tube Park every day of the week.

Let’s face it, not everyone skis, snowboards or skates. But, you can still be active outdoors in winter with a sled or at WinSport with a massive inflated rubber tube. This tube park sports nine lanes almost 200 metres long. Fortunately you don’t have to worry about huffing and puffing your way up the hill. A magic carpet whisks you and your tube to the top.

Staff monitoring each lane might give you a spin before sending you on your way, but you can ask them not too if you’re into less adrenaline. All of a sudden you’re barrelling down the hill at a thrilling speed before sliding into 50 feet of hay at the end of the lane to break your ride. The hay is a total surprise, but it sure does break your speed. There’s also a crash pad at the end of the run, but it’s unlikely you’ll get that far. Here’s a tube tip: as much as you want to scream, try to keep your mouth closed. That way hay won’t fly into it when you hit the end of the lane. Also make sure all your clothing is tucked or else hay might find its way in there, too!

Want to go faster? Up to three tubes can be linked together so you can enjoy the ride as a group. The more weight on the tube, the faster they go.

Acura Tube Park is especially handy for families with children in lessons at WinSport (the only spot in the city for ski and snowboard lessons). While they’re getting schooled, you take yourself or the rest of your brood to the tube park instead of waiting in the day lodge.

Helmets aren’t required, but you’ll probably want to wear one anyway. Bring your own or rent on-site. Lockers inside the lodge require a toonie. Acura Tube Park is suitable for preschoolers and up, and you can opt for two, three and four-hour passes. (Note: two hour passes are only available for purchase online.)

The one thing to keep in mind before visiting is this tube park doesn’t open until 5 pm on weekdays (regrettable with all those PD days we have), but weekends they’re open during the day. You can even host your next birthday party here!

Whoosh, we’ve just fallen in love with winter.
