There are two types of winter camping. One involves a tent, snow and lots of fire starter. The other involves a phone (to register), car (to get there) and lots of eager, young camp counselors. The second option is warmer.
Whether it’s work, holiday prep or dare we say, your child’s boredom that drives you to look for alternative activities over the break, we’ve got several options for you to keep them busy and happy.
Canada Olympic Park
Just because you don’t want to play in the snow all day, doesn’t mean they don’t. Canada Olympic Park offers ski camps, snowboard camps (in the terrain park) and multi-sport camps (downhill, x-country and snowboarding) on December 20 and 21, or 22 and 23 from 9 am to 3:30 pm (after care is available).
Leisure Centres
The City of Calgary Leisure Centre holiday camps are popular with the under-eight crowd and there is limited space available in both the Holiday Hoopla and Frosty’s Frolic programs for kids starting at age three. We love that you can register for one or several days depending upon the program and location.
Calgary JCC
Gym, swim and crafts are the focus at the Calgary Jewish Community Centre’s annual Winter Camps. They run from 9 am to 4 pm daily from December 20 to 31 (except for Christmas and Boxing Day). Register for one day or several—there’s a 5% discount if you register for a week.
