Move over drive-in—when it comes to movie night, we’re parking ourselves at the park.
Pack up your folding chairs, grab some blankets and get ready for a free outdoor adventure of a different kind—Movie in the Park.
These family fun events can be found all over Calgary and are hosted by different recreation centres and organizations. The evening starts at 7 pm, but we suggest you arrive early to snag the good ‘parking spot.’ You can keep the kids busy before the show with a cornucopia of kid fun, including bouncy castles, magician shows, bouncy pony races, Guitar Hero, hula hoop competitions and novelty dancing (mom and dad are welcome and encouraged to join in). There are vendors on hand selling popcorn and other snacks, but we like to bring our own and avoid lineups (and any related meltdowns).
The movies start around 8:30 pm on a giant inflatable screen. Sign up for their newsletter to stay in-the-know about upcoming events and the movies being screened.
Good to Know: Bring bug spray, extra toilet paper (you never know what public toilets will be like), hand sanitizer and layers. It gets much colder after the sun goes down and the running around comes to an end.
So make it a family movie night—it’s quite a sight.
