Farm2School Alberta

The only thing that could possibly be more important to moms than a kid’s education is ensuring they eat a healthy meal.

Moms know that kids need good food to learn, and apparently the people who started Farm2School Alberta know how much both of those things matter. Simply put, they created a program that allows you to raise money for your school and support local farmers by purchasing farm fresh produce for your family.

Let’s expand. The Healthy Choice Fundraiser is an opportunity to raise funds for your school while selling farm-fresh veggies. With two bundle choices ($12 or $22), the school keeps 50% of the proceeds. Bundles can include carrots, onions, red potatoes, parsnips and cabbage. Fundraisers can be scheduled any time between September and December, but note that the last orders are accepted on December 11.

Enrolment details and order forms can be found on the Farm2School Alberta website, with some great teaching resources to help get the kids excited about the program. You can also use the program to donate bundles to the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank—a wonderful opportunity to share the spirit of giving with your kids as the holiday season approaches.

So give the gift that gives three times this season: to farmers, schools and family. Feast on that idea.
