Editor’s Note: Corbeaux Bakehouse has permanently closed.

Did you hear the news? Carbs are our friends again! You can’t help but make peace with bread and other baked goods when visiting Corbeaux Bakehouse.

More than just a bakery, Corbeaux whips up proper meals in addition to stunning desserts, creating everything in-house. This new eatery is all about small-production ancient grains, local ingredients and a fierce emphasis on freshness. Opened by the brothers behind Fratello Coffee Roasters, you know their java is pretty rad, too.

The space has got that NYC City Bakery vibe (where the Sex and the City gals used to hang out). Light floods in from an entire ceiling of skylights and the display case looks like it belongs to a genuine French patisserie. Gorgeous gâteaux, massive macarons and lovely loaves (including travel size for an awesome after-school snack) tempt the take-away crowd.

The atmosphere is vibrant, so snag a table or saddle up to the bakery bar and watch the bakers at work. Finicky eaters appreciate the deconstructed menu, where you can select items from the butcher, the baker, and—nope, not the candlestick maker—the cheese shop in addition to savoury dishes such as chicken pot pie and crowd-pleasing croque madame.

Nice to see you again, croissant. It’s been far too long.
