With back-to-school on the horizon, why not ride the rails for one more summer adventure?
Alberta’s latest railway excursion is just south of Calgary in Aspen Crossing. These 3-4 hour round-trip train rides are filled with fun for kids of all ages. The littlest engineers will love the Circus Train ride, which includes face painting and on-board circus entertainment. The Meals in the Field option is a bit more mellow, offering an outdoor lunch and a grain elevator tour, while the Alberta Special features live entertainment. All three of these journeys come with a train robbery—the most important part. Be sure to have some small change on hand to hand over to the crooks! If quality adult time is in the cards, the Wine and Cheese Tour definitely tantalizes the taste buds.
Super-size the experience by staying overnight in the campground. There are spots for RVs and even the opportunity to rent one for the night. Even better: treat your train lovers to a completely unique experience by staying overnight in a ‘caboose’ cabin. Equipped with full kitchens and supplies, beds and bedding, bathrooms (and yes, TVs), it’s a ‘hotel’ experience without any concern for motion sickness. With decks and nearby fire pits, be sure to bring the folding chairs and marshmallows!
