Need a place to take the kids to let them burn off some energy? No matter what the weather, or the season, sometimes we just need a safe, fun space to let the kids be kids (outside of the house). Gymboree Play and Music classes (in Orleans) are designed for children ages 5 and under, with parents being an important part of the curriculum. Together, along with Gymboree teachers, children are introduced to music and movement, art and creativity, physical sports, activities and more. The play area is a welcoming way for families to get moving—at their own pace. In addition to classes for kids, there are special events for families to attend too, like meet-ups for moms. And forget having to plan a messy, complicated birthday party at home, Gymboree Play and Music can host you and your tiny guests for some birthday fun.

Kids Kingdom

With locations in Kanata and Orléans, Kids Kingdom is the perfect indoor play place for little princes and princesses who need to blow off a little steam on a cold, wet day. The toddler area (fully padded!) is set up for climbing, exploring, and sliding while moms (and babes) can sit in comfort and chat or nurse. Bigger kids aged 3–12 will love the larger, castle-themed structure, which features multiple levels, zippy slides of all types, and plenty of little corners to make for a great game of tag or hide and seek. The best part is that child care is available. Drop off your bundle of energy for a few hours of quiet shopping, or take advantage of their before-and-after school care programs to help make your hectic family schedule work.

Funhaven

Funhaven offers laser tag, mini-lane bowling, rock climbing, bumper cars, a video arcade and a jungle gym complete with a jungle temple theme that includes a three-level spiral slide, ball launcher and cave crawl. There’s even an indoor roller coaster! Food options include pizza and a self-serve yogurt bar. Birthday parties are also available.

Starr Gymnastics and Parkour

Three words—drop-in playtime. And it’s great for kids between the ages of 1 and 5. Active play in this indoor playground is a great way to get the wiggles out and ensure a good night’s sleep. (And we’re not just talking about the kids either!) With the latest addition of parkour classes, Starr Gymnastics has a lot of exciting programming for kids of all ages – including preteens and teens.

Tubes & Jujubes

Tubes & Jujubes is located in an industrial area in Gatineau, right next to the old Wakefield steam train station. It’s a bright and cheerful environment in which to spend an afternoon with your family. Think of it as a giant padded jungle gym. A network of tubes, stairs and slides cover the warehouse-style interior. Play areas are carpeted and cushy mats are everywhere. They have a new LEGO birthday party option that we think will be popular with your little LEGO enthusiasts.

Clip ‘N Climb

Clip ‘N Climb is a part of Altitude Gym and is a cavern full of dozens of funky and fun climbing walls. Youngsters can live out their Spiderman dreams at one of their two locations (Gatineau or Kanata). Every climber self-clips into the support rope (plenty of staff are on hand to double-check each fastener), and then kids are free to head up, up and away. Children under 5 require a parent with them to climb.

Toddler Games

Toddler Games is a community drop-in play area, custom-designed for toddlers and only open select days of the week. Located inside Archery Games just off Bank Street and Walkley Road, we love that playtime is designed specifically with children aged 1-4 in mind. Parents, grandparents and caregivers are all welcome to the arena, too. It’s a large enough space to allow for plenty of running, exploring, and free play. Best of all, admission is just $4 per toddler, and parents and babies under 12 months are free. We recommend visiting their Facebook page to keep up to date on their hours and information.

Xtreme Trampoline Park

We love the funky colours and bright, natural light at Ottawa’s West End trampoline park. The Crash Pit is a fave—get a bouncing start on a trampoline and hurl yourself into a foam-filled giant pit, or play ball at one of three basketball nets or dodgeball pit. Of course, there’s the massive free-jump area, too, for maximum jumping fun. Got little ones? We’ve saved the best feature for last: the toddler area. Separated from the rest of the gym by fencing and limited to kids 42 inches and under in height, there’s a perfectly sized little foam pit and smaller trampolines—including two surrounded by a small padded bench for really little ones so that mom or dad can provide a steadying arm.

Flying Squirrel

Flying Squirrel is a trampoline park in Ottawa’s East end (right across from the Gloucester Costco!) with activities like basketball, jousting and slack rope walking. Kids of all ages can enjoy everything Flying Squirrel has to offer. Parents of toddlers, you’ll be extra happy to know that there are specific toddler times to let your little ones jump, roll and play with other kids around their age too. We’ve shared more about Flying Squirrel in this article.
