As the weather turns cooler, the city’s parks and other outdoor attractions become a little less appealing, at least to us adults. Sure, they’re still must-visit places for your family but some days you want to be somewhere warm and cozy but where your kids can still burn off energy. Thankfully, there are many indoor playgrounds in Toronto and the GTA to fit the bill. Below we’ve rounded up 11 of Toronto’s top indoor playgrounds that are known for their cleanliness, their variety of activities, and of course, their ability to keep your kids happy and entertained.
While all the centres listed offer open, usually drop-in style play times, be sure to call ahead, especially if you want to go on the weekend. Many of them also offer birthday parties and the option to book their full facility out, so their public access can vary. Also note that most indoor play places are socks-only, yes, even for the adults, so make sure you head out the door with socks that you want the world to see.
Indoor Playgrounds in Toronto and the GTA
The Bubble
65A Orfus Rd., Toronto
This spot isn’t your traditional indoor playground but sometimes it’s nice to mix it up. As Canada’s only indoor “inflatapark,” The Bubble features six distinct inflatable areas, including an obstacle course and a giant slide. There’s also an arcade, a laser tag area and plenty of space to host your kid’s next birthday party. The Bubble’s inflatables are meant for people ages two and up, while kids must be at least seven to wield a laser tag gun. Access to 55 minutes of “jump time” is around $25 per person, with laser tag and the arcade costing extra. There are also discounted family packs available, starting at $115 for four people.
Bunch of Fun Playland
11B Kodiak Cres., Toronto
Featuring two large and colourful playgrounds, one aimed at toddlers and one better suited for kids ages four and up, this spot also has something for adults: A café that can prepare you hot, fresh coffee and various snacks (it’s also kosher). Bunch of Fun also offers a pottery studio where your older kids can paint a piece of clay while your younger ones are busy on the playground. Drop-in fees start at just over $13.
Epic Planet Fun
24 Lebovic Ave. Unit C2, Toronto
Featuring the city’s first indoor rope course, this playground is great for a wide range of ages and interests. You can entertain your littlest ones over in the separate toddler area while your older kids explore the large, multi-level play structure and the two custom inflatables. There is even an arcade and a parents’ lounge that features free wi-fi. As you would expect, this place also hosts birthday parties and features four rooms for exactly that purpose. A drop-in play pass starts at $12.99 per child, covers one adult and provides two hours of access to the indoor play gym. There’s also a $10.99 pass for siblings and various packages that also include access to the rope course.
Extreme Fun
186 Bartley Dr., Toronto
This place lives up to its name as it offers all kinds of ways to keep kids ages one through 10 busy. In addition to a 15-foot-high play structure, complete with slides of course, there’s a giant jumping castle, a drama/dress-up corner, air hockey and foosball tables and plenty more. There’s also a cafe for the adults and assorted packages are offered for birthday parties. General admission is $10, with an $8 sibling ticket also available.
Happy Kingdom
Nation Experience, 1980 St. Clair Ave. W., Toronto
An indoor playground inside a grocery store might sound odd at first but it’s actually kind of genius. While one adult stays with the kids at Happy Kingdom’s surprisingly elaborate indoor play structure (race each down the slides into the ball pit), another can buy groceries and then pick up lunch from Nations’ extensive hot table. Sit down at the adjacent tables to eat and then head back into the playground or check out the arcade. Birthday party packages are also available. Pricing varies depending on the day of the week and the size of your kid, but the entry fee starts at $14.99.
Jump For Joy
1472 Danforth Ave., Toronto
Located right on the Danforth, Jump for Joy is a short stroll from either the Greenwood or Coxwell subway stops. While best suited for kids under seven, older kids are welcome to come and play with their younger siblings on the indoor climbing structure (which features a slide and ball bit), in the bounce house and with the centre’s many pretend/dramatic play toys. There’s also a dedicated section for babies/young toddlers that’s a bit tucked away, to help keep the more active kids away from those who haven’t quite yet mastered walking. The drop-in play fee is $22 for one child and adult or $34 for two kids and an adult (kids under eight months are free). Jump for Joy also offers birthday parents, an after-care program, and even a parent relief program, where for $24 an hour, the centre’s staff will watch your little one while you run errands or take some me-time.
Just For Fun
689 Warden Ave., Toronto
Here you’ll find a massive indoor play structure that’s spacious enough to even be used by adults. Toddlers will enjoy the soft play and sensory play panel areas and older kids will flock to the free arcade games, air hockey table, basketball nets, and more. There’s also a virtual reality space, a gaming den, and a laser tag area that features such cool backdrops as underwater, and the Toronto cityscape. Admission to the playground for one child and one adult costs $14, with additional fees for the other activities.
Kids Fun Town
2071 Danforth Ave., Toronto
While most indoor playgrounds are located in out-of-the-way spaces, this one is found practically right next to the Woodbine subway stop. Best suited for kids ages nine months to seven years, Kids Fun Town features a climbing structure, a bouncy castle, and lots of dramatic and creative play toys. There’s also a separate play area for toddlers and ride-on toys for those kids who just need to move. Parents meanwhile can enjoy free wi-fi. A number of party packages are also available. A kid’s play-all-day pass is $13.99 with adults costing $7.99.
Midtown’s Tiny Tots
745 Mount Pleasant Rd., Toronto
In addition to being a daycare, and hosting birthday parties and camps, Midtown’s Tiny Tots also offers its Activity Centre, best suited for toddlers through the kindergarten age set. In the Centre your kids will find various sensory and mobile toys, a large play structure and even a mini-coaster. Midtown’s Tiny Tots also offers a coworking option where, for an additional fee, someone will supervise your child while you get some work done (yes, you must remain on- site). Note that right now, all play spots must be pre-booked. Hourly rates for the Activity Centre start at $15.50.
Playground Paradise
Flemingdon Community Centre, 150 Grenoble Dr., Toronto
Did you know that the City of Toronto runs its very own large, spacious, and completely FREE indoor playground? Located inside the Flemingdon Community Centre, Playground Paradise features climbing apparatuses, slides and even a larger-than-life “tree” that kids can explore. The playground is open to kids up to age 12 and just a heads-up, it can get quite busy. It also is a snack-free and beverage free zone, so fill up before you head out.
Sprouts
183 Carlaw Ave., Toronto
If you’re looking for more of a mellow environment where your under six-year-olds can practice their budding gross motor skills without getting in the way of “big kids,” this Leslieville-located indoor playground is an ideal fit. You child can have a ball on Sprouts’ many play structures, rockers and climbing apparatuses while you enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea. Sprouts also offers a number of classes and camps, as well as birthday party packages. Admission costs for the drop-in play is $21.95 for one child and adult or $31.95 for one adult and two children.
