If I was a teacher, the last thing I would want in my classroom on October 31st is a bag or bucket full of candy-coated confections. While Halloween is practically synonymous with sweet treats, I think every educator would agree that the ‘crash and burn’ that comes from handfuls of sugar in the middle of the day isn’t worth all the candy in the classroom.
Luckily, we have quite a few haunted yet healthy treats in our party portfolio’recipes that are frightfully fun, yet nutritious and ideal for a school celebration. If you’re a teacher, parent or party volunteer, here are five treats that will keep the kids calm on the scariest day of the school year.
Veggie Skeleton
These veggie-based bones couldn’t be simpler to make. Build your skeleton on a large baking sheet, which is more generous in size than the average serving platter, and makes transporting the snack to the classroom easy thanks to the rimmed sides. Round out the dish with a favourite dip that’s certain to delight the kids.
Monster Apple Kebobs
These freaky faces are a fun addition to any classroom party. If you happen to be in charge of planning a craft as well, bring the recipe ingredients into the classroom and let the kids make their own petrifying people.
Devilled Eggs
Scare the kids silly with this protein-dense snack. It will keep tummies full while providing the little ghosts and goblins with energy for an evening of trick-or-treating.
Monster Head Veggie Platter
There is no denying that this green veggie ogre will provide just the right amount of fright to any classroom party.
Spiced Seedy Snack
Stay away from the sweets and spice up your pumpkin seeds with chili powder and cumin for a crunchy treat the classroom critters will like nibbling on.
