Organic Awesomeness

From the moment they’€™re born, we’€™re overcome with love, then an overwhelming need to protect and feed our child. That need to feed is a primal response that never goes away. But could we make that a bit easier for the busy mom, please? We’€™re looking for the best healthy, nutritious baby food available at the local grocer’€”since you can buy everything else there these days.

Local mompreneur Leah Garrad-Cole is on it with her new line of organic baby food, Love Child Organics. Originally hailing from Bowen Island and now living in Whistler, Leah returned to Canada from the UK a few years ago to find that most baby foods sold in Canada (even those labelled organic), contain lots of sugar, sodium and fillers. She began making her own baby food and planning a business venture with her British-born husband, John. This past February, after a lot of hard work, Love Child Organics hit the shelves with six yummy, nutritious flavours. Ten more flavours are expected to be in stores by next fall.

Each unique combination of veggie and fruit puree has two common super food ingredients: quinoa and acerola. Equally important, all products are organic, kosher, gluten free and nut free. Big kids can take the packs to school or camp as a snack (the packaging is purposely made to look universal and not too babyish). We love that it’€™s all made in Canada.

If you need another reason to head to your local Stong’s, Meinhardt, Choices, Walmart, Nesters or IGA (and soon Whole Foods) to pick up some Love Child Organics, Leah and John believe strongly in giving back and are currently supporting both Make-A-Wish Canada and Whistler-based Playground Builders.

Now, it’€™s as easy as a squeeze to get some healthy goodness into your child’€™s diet. That’€™s what we call love, child.
